Landgraf I

1966-1996

Landgraf I has been labeled by many "Stallion of the Century." His genes are securely anchored in the breed of the modern sport horse. His offspring have won just under seven million dollars mainly in show jumping and is still growing.
Nearly 60 colts by Landgraf I have been licensed for the Holsteiner stud book, like the champion of 1991, Linaro, and the dressage talent, Loutano. Some of his sons have already achieved top positions as performance sires, for example, Letus II, a jumping sire, and the versatile Landadel.  So far, 340 broodmares by Landgraf I are registered in the German Holsteiner stud book, 260 of these are in the Head Stud Book, 70 have been awarded State Premium, and a considerable number have been champion mares at shows.

Landgraf had a very good temperament which he passed on dominantly, together with excellent movement. In his Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warm blood Breed, Dr Dietrich Rossow comments: "Imposing appearance with enormous crest and neck carriage. Smooth total top line and much presence. Beautiful face with marvelous eye. Long, rather broad neck, long sloping shoulder. Well shaped, muscular croup. Strong bone. Good in front. Good mover. Marvelous temperament. Phenomenal jumper; tight in front, lots of bascule, careful and talented. He produced a huge number of international class jumpers. Up to now (the book was published in 1988) Landgraf is far and away the most important jumper sire in the world!"

When you visit Elmshorn, Germany, these days, and you stop at the century-old "Riding and Driving School", then you are where the heart of the Holsteiner Horse Breeding is beating.  And there you meet that characteristic shape of Landgraf I in front of the complex, the symbol of the modern Holsteiner Sport Horse and performance sire. The original himself died in 1996 at the age of 30.  In his article in Breeding News (August 1999) French journalist, Pascal Renauldon records the great stallion's passing: "On 10 April 1996, the Holstein breeders had celebrated, with great pomp, their charmed stallion, during a ceremony which had assembled some of his most celebrated progeny: Libero H, Taggi and some 30 others. Exactly one month after this hommage, Landgraf passed away due to heart failure, even though his physical condition had showed no signs of decrepitude. His strong back was not swayed, his proud eye of a dominant stallion and imposing neck were still as superb as when they appeared on photographs of him as a youngster."

LADYKILLER

Ladykiller embodied the powerful type of the thoroughbred. He was a strikingly handsome stallion with pronounced masculine attributes. He had an excellent mastery of the three basic gaits and was blessed with the best character and temperament values. He clearly transmitted himself, his marked type, the magnificent head, correct and powerful foundation and excellent jumping ability in regard to capacity, manner of jumping, leg technique and above all spirit. His best stallion sons by far, Landgraf I and Lord were both bred out of mares who themselves had significant proportions of the best thoroughbred blood.

 COR DE LA BRYERE

Born 1968Cor de la Bryere

1968-2000.  Br 166cm Selle Francais (FR). Approved Holsteiner, Oldenburg. Imported to Holstein, Germany 1971. 1971 Champion of the Holsteiner 100 Day test. Revolutionized jumping horse breeding.  One of the most import sources of show jumping blood in the world today.  One of the most significant stallions in Holsteiner breeding. Sired:  top international jumpers, dressage horses, 49 approved sons. Sire: Rantzau

Progeny Winnings to 1993: 2,000,000+ DM

CorHis incredible bascule and jumping ability is credited with improving the Holsteiner jumping style. He also passed on his strong nerves, intelligence and great willingness to perform. Corde was purchased by the Holsteiner Verband as a consolidation sire, to prevent loss of too much substance or mind, as most Holsteiner mares were being outcrossed to TBs to increase lightness and athletic ability.

RAIMOND

Born 1960.Raimond

1960-1979, Gr 166cm/16h Holsteiner, Stamm 185. Produced 6 approved sons, 122 approved daughters. “Sire of Ramiro, arguably the most successful jumping sire of them all”.

A son of the legendary influence of  Anglo Arabian stallion Ramzes.  Raimond was a beautiful, muscular 16H stallion. He produced uniform and typy offspring. He produced many good broodmares with ideal temperaments. He crossed best with refined mares. He produced 6 approved sons including Ramiro and 122 approved daughters.

RAMZES AA

Ramzes AA

Born 1937.

1937-1963, Gr 166cm, Anglo Arabian. [80402837]. [approved: Holst, Westf]. Born in Poland, imported to Germany. Bred in Holstein Verband to refine the heavy warm blood horses in the area. Also bred in Westphalia. Without Ramzes, the entire German Warm blood breed would be today hardly conceivable. Sire: Rittersporn, Dam: Jordi.

RANTZAU XX

Rantzau xx

Born 1946.

1946-1971, Ch 165cm/16.1h Thoroughbred. [064779064]. (FR). Sire of International Grand Prix Jumpers, and Dressage and Events Horses. Regarded as the best Thoroughbred stallion who ever entered the French breeding industry of sport horses. Stood at Saint-Lô. Sire: Foxlight, Dam: Rancune.

SACRAMENTO SONG XX

Sacramento Song xx

1967-1979, DkB/Br 169cm Thoroughbred. [210403867]. (GB). Sought after in many European stud books including Holsteiner. Was an Influential sire of jumpers. Sire: Sicambre, Dam: Easter Gala.

Sacramento Song xx  lives on and daily grows more influential in both dressage and jumping breeding. Sacramento Song was a classically bred English Thoroughbred, who stood in Holstein from 1973 to his early death in 1979. He is described in Dr Dietrich Rossow’s Stallion Book of the Holsteiner Warmblood Breed as: "A classically bred, English Thoroughbred, with beautiful, smoothly harmonious topline. Beautiful head, rather low set on neck, impressive shoulder with good coupling to the croup. Well muscled, strong legs and feet, sufficient gaits. Tremendous jumping ability, very tight with front end and good with knees."  Dr Rossow was of the opinion that he bred: ‘Very good temperaments, keen, energetic dispositions, often rather hot. Stallions and geldings steadier in competition than mares, who were often ‘witchy’. Top jumper sire!’   Alas as a private stallion he was only sparingly used by the Holstein breeders to their later regret. By 1990 with progeny earnings of DM696,000 he was the 8th most successful post-war Thoroughbred sire in Germany! Sacramento Song had 31 competitors with placings, 29 of which were showjumpers. After his death three exceptional sons were licensed on the grounds of their competition results: Sympatico, Sacramento Son and Sandro.
